When My husband lost his job, we got into major debt with our bank. They took away our overdraft priveleges, but still pay up to $300 in overdrafts. We bounced checks left and right and once we tried to stop our bills got really late. He fianlly has a job but we can’t seem to catch up. My entire paycheck goes to bank charges every week. Is it a good idea to stop my direct deposit and pay my bank off gradually that way I still have money to pay my bills? His check pays our babysitter and a few bills and when we were desperate we took out a payday loan too. Any advice?

What a vicious cycle you’ve created.

First, do not write anymore checks on that bank account…..You must consider getting that account "up to zero" a high priority. If you don’t, you could find yourself in a position of no bank account anywhere… I would stop the direct deposit after you clean up your bank account.

But not until the bank is tired of collecting "free money" from you.

Second, you need to list/type all your bills and the late penalties from them….and prioritize them, and call them and ask for extensions, partial payment acceptance. If you’re polite, they’ll help.

Third, you obviously are paying for internet service…..Unfortunately, things like CABLE TV, High Speed Internet…cell phones….should not be considered essentials…

basic cable $30/mo
interenet $25
cell $50 – - there is an easy $100/mo that could be used more efficiently….NOT FOREVER….Just until things get under control.

Good luck….

mine said that he would rather beg in the streets and feed himself if he learned that we got our incomes from immorality, corruption or other ill gotten wealth
i am going to take …..yeah, some parents are so harsh that it end up making the kids avoid them. My brother is so harsh to her daugther that made her run away from home and threathened to commit suicide if her hiding place is discovered and forced to return home.

A man’s only as good as his word.

Do some need to serve political or other interests first and then the people´s?
Where are all the billions of dollars of surplus money in the world going to?
Is it something wrong? Is it ethic to make more profit merging multinational companies until they become megabusiness that control and put their price on everything?

Is humankind better off today than a hundred of years ago?

best way to save money?

Posted by: admin | Comments (5)

well, i’m looking for a job just now just working in a shop for some income. (16 and left school(career i want to do i need to be 18 for an apprentiship))

basically i’m thinking once i get a job (whenever that may be, i hate the recession) if i just set by around half of my wages each month and save them up for a bass guitar i’m wanting (which is about £5000) i know its a hell of a lot but while i’m living with my parent and under 18 i don’t pay taxes or anything so i am actually able to keep my wages so i may as well while i can lol.

so would that be a good way to save money? any advice is appreciated and sorry for the paragraph.
also the guitar is a work of art and i definetly know thats what i want…..even though there is a steep price tag
@ michael watson : yeah but im gonna want to spend it eventually haha

Once you get your job, saving as much as you can would be a good plan towards getting that guitar you want. While you are living with your parents, if they aren’t wanting a contribution from you towards household expenses, you should aim to keep more than half. I’m not sure what the age limits are in UK, but in Ireland at under 18 you are too young to be drinking and smoking, and if you are really clever you won’t do them anyway, but keep your target firmly in your mind and aim towards that. The firmer you keep it there, the harder you will work towards it, and the sooner you will be able to go and buy it.

If I understood you correctly, you are "just working in a shop for some income" while looking for a better job. Then you will have started saving already. You are not too grown up to create a chart to hand up on your wall, with say £50 increments and £5000 at the top, and fill it in as you put money by, to monitor your progress. That will help stop you being tempted to buy the latest DVD (you can always buy it later when you have got the guitar) or splashing out on anything else you could live perfectly well without. My son and his friends often visit each others’ houses to watch DVDs or a football match – it saves them money by costing less than going out on the town

Even if you are working now, you could look out for other ways to boost your savings. If you get pocket money from home, save it. Are there elderly folk living near you who might find household chores difficult now? A strong healthy 16 year old should be able to clean windows, do gardening or general yard work, paint gates or garden boundary walls, or run errands for them. Anyone caring full time for a housebound incapacitated relative may welcome the chance to let someone else "granny sit" for a few hours, to give the carer some precious time off. Look around you – there are opportunities to make a few shillings, but you have to identify them.

Good luck !!!

I’m 15 & my mum would give me $35-$40 per week but I can never seem to have more than $100 in my wallet?
What bothers me more is that after a day in the mall [money gone] I start to regret. Like, I didn’t exactly NEED those shoe or those headbands…
How do you save your money when hitting the mall/shops?

Open a savings account so that whenever your mom gives you money you can make a deposit with some of it "before" you visit the mall.
Only take a small amount of money with you when you go to the mall.
Stay out of the mall and find other ways of enjoying yourself.

P.S. You’re still very young so don’t be too hard on yourself for your spending habits because wisdom and self-discipline will come when the time is right.

I am trying to get myself out of debt as fast as possible. How can i do this? i currently owe $8,000 on credit cards, i have a $350 Min. car note every month and $650 mothly rent to pay.
i make $550 a week.

Can anyone give me som suggestions?

Look at all of your credit cards.

The only variable available here is to pay off your credit cards. (You have to pay your rent and car, so no help there.)

Look at the interest rate of each card and pay the highest interest rate card the most. Lower your card payment on the others to just about double the minimum payment.

For example, let’s say you can afford $500 a month in credit card payments. If you have 4 credit cards and each one has a minimum payment of say $50.00 (or whatever), take the highest interest one and shove $300 into that, $100 into the next highest and pay the $50 minimum on each of the other two. Repeat until finished.

If you have two at the same interest rate, pay off the one with the smaller balance first. It is psychologically helpful, you will eliminate one source of debt.

Oh, and quit using the credit cards. Once there is a balance on a credit card, every new charge on it adds considerably more interest, your $20 haircut can turn into a $200 haircut by the compounded interest…

Who’s for redistribution of wealth? Who’s for a return to a stronger middle class and stronger nation as a result? Who’s for a military draft that includes all classes to share the sacrifices of war? Who’s for a more progesssive future? And I am not talking about the two parties here. I am talking about change from grass roots organizations. And don’t even start in about Democrats vs. Republicans because both parties are worthless and are slaves to their corporate paymasters. I am talking about political philosophy here.

You’re right, of course. The problem here re the middle class is that Republicans & Democrats alike, have sold the middle class out. The result is this: someday very soon, there will be only 2 classes of people–the very rich and the very poor. There can never be a redistribution of wealth. Why? (I know you don’t want to hear the rhetoric about Rep vs Dem, but it is there, all the same. A Rep gets in office and gives the rich even more money by giving the rich more tax breaks. The Dem get in office and attempt to take care of the poor (the humane thing to do). How? By raising taxes to ALL Americans. Then the Rep get back in office and undo everything the Dem did. The vicious circle that never changes and is always the same. Now with the illegals here getting amnesty & all the benefits meant for Americans, the problem intensifies. Never ending, never changing. Having the illegals here actually drives down the wages of middle American and very soon, what was middle-class Americans will be a poorer class of middle Americans until there is no middle America. How about ‘hoping’ there will be an independent that comes along and puts a stop to the insanity? No more outsourcing of jobs would be a good place to start, don’t you think? And then maybe doing something about the amnesty issue.

I have heard that you can get paid to write articles for blogs, has any one done this or know about it? I am really looking at a number of ways to make just a little cash online, not wanting to get rich. Any ideas guys?

If you want to blog it takes a lot of time and you definitely want mentoring.. I suggest reading some of problogger.com information or do some Google searches for successful bloggers and their information that is free to start.

Check out writers blogs the one below has a blog list to the side with great information. Also a couple of articles that might be useful…. one to do with tax deductions as you will want to make sure to keep your writing income useful to you.

There is also a link for how to make money from writing online.
