How do I get a free upgrade to Business Class?
ByI’m a Gold level member on American Airlines and am traveling internationally and I don’t have enough 500-mile upgrade certificates. How do I get upgraded to Business class?
use united airlines they upgrade u easier… or get bumped and ask for a upgrade and cash.. and miles

My flight was delayed and I missed the connecting flight. The airline gave me a free upgrade to compensate my loss.
