Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Bankers – Remington Riders
By
I hope this doesn’t blow my mortgage application, but here goes — “Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Bankers” by Jan Lewis to the tune of “Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” – by the Remington Riders. As featured on Willie Nelson’s website (link below).
Lyrics written and sung by Jan Lewis
Jan Lewis: vocal, piano
Robert Berry: engineering, instruments
Erik Adelfred: video
Lyrics:
Chorus:
Mams, don’t let your babies grow up to be bankers
Don’t let ‘em pick pockets to make the big bucks
Let ‘em be cowboys, musicians, and such.
Mams, don’t let your babies grow up to be bankers
Cause they’ll make you a loan
And then steal your home
And everyone hates ‘em so much.
Verse:
Money ain’t easy to get and it’s harder to hold
I keep my cash in the mattress just like it was gold
Bailout and bonuses, credit default swaps, the crooks always find a new way,
If you don’t understand that, you’ll lose all your money,
And the bankers get richer each day.
They love to defraud,
They’re just crooked, oh Lord,
And everyone hates ‘em so much.
If you’re from Goldman Sachs,
I bet ya cheat on your tax,
And the bankers get richer each day.
They’ll steal you blind,
Time after time,
And the bankers get richer each day.

Hi mumbles637: I …
Hi mumbles637: I certainly agree that it is cavet emptor out there, however; the homebuyer does this a very few times in their lifetime, while bankers do it every day. Doesn’t that put a heavier onus on the professional? (Especially those making 6, 7 and 8 figure incomes!) What do you call sub-prime loans if not a scam? The sheep (err, buyers) were sheered, but can you blame them for being sheep, doing what sheep do naturally? I have some compassion for the sheep, but none for the sheerer!

Then don’t buy a home that you can’t afford, don’t blame the bankers for your own stupidity.

Thanks, mxbjacqu. As for the Fortune vid on investment bankers, it is one of the funniest routines I’ve ever heard in my life on any topic. I have it in my “Economic humor and parodies” playlist, easily findable on my channel. Well worth the view.

Congrats on the …
Congrats on the lyrics which, by the way, seem to be a widely shared sentiment in America these days….
From : Bertrand, who lives in France (remember freedom fries and such ?) and negociates with investment bankers every day…. To all those who like this song : also have a look at John Fortune’s and John Chance’s views on the financial crisis (also on YouTube. Those keywords should be enough to find the video clips).
